Comparative transcriptome analysis of the hippocampus from sleep-deprived and Alzheimer’s disease mice Genet. Mol. Biol.

Abstract We did a comparative analysis of the gene expression profiles of the hippocampus from sleep deprivation and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) mice. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by comparing the transcriptome profiles of the hippocampus of sleep deprivation or AD mouse models to matched controls. The common DEGs between sleep deprivation and AD were identified by the overlapping analysis, followed by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. The results showed that a total of 16 common DEGs showed similar change patterns in both sleep deprivation mice and AD mice. Lipid and lipid carbon stable isotope composition of the hydrothermal vent shrimp Mirocaris fortunata: evidence for nutritional dependence on photosynthetically fixed carbon ArchiMer

Mirocaris fortunata were sampled from the Lucky Strike hydrothermal vent area (Eiffel Tower site) on the mid-Atlantic ridge during the French DIVA 2 cruise (June 1994). Small adults (17 to 22 mm total length), although morphologically identical, could be divided into 2 categories on the basis of pigmentation, lipid composition and C-13/C-12 stable isotope ratios of fatty acids. Highly pigmented small adults (8.6 to 9.2 mu g carotenoid shrimp(-1)) contained higher levels of total lipid than similar-sized individuals containing lower levels of pigment (0.9 to 2.9 mu g carotenoid shrimp(-1)). Comparative proteomics reveals proteins impacted by nitrogen deprivation in wild-type and high lipid-accumulating mutant strains of Tisochrysis lutea ArchiMer

Understanding microalgal lipid accumulation under nitrogen starvation is of major interest for biomass feedstock, food and biofuel production. Using a domesticated oleaginous algae Tisochrysis lutea, we performed the first comparative proteomic analysis on the wild type strain and a selected lipid over-accumulating mutant. 2-DE analysis was made on these strains cultured in two metabolic conditions, with and without nitrogen deprivation, which revealed significant differences in proteomes according to both strain and nitrogen availability. Valeurs caloriques de la chair de l'huître Crassostrea gigas Thumberg : estimation directe et biochimique ArchiMer

Caloric values of the ash-free dried sofkt parts of Crassostrea gigas have been characterized, according to season using a microcalorimeter and biochemical composition. This study shows the difference between the two methods. A conversation factor (8,63 kcal-gr(-1) has been determined for lipid of pacific oyster. Thix work shows that reproduction implies a loss of energy (53% to 63%) for non juvenile oysters. The increase of energetic level necessary to growth is more important for juvenile oysters and is upper than what is lost for reproduction.

This study examines the effects of varying dietary lipids on growth, survival, lipid composition and behaviour in lobster Homarus americanus (Milne Edwards, 1837) postlarvae. Lobsters were fed one of 3 diets during their early ontogeny: (1) Artemac, a widely used Artemia replacement; (2) a ternary mixture consisting of Artemac, frozen Artemia adults and Artemia flakes; or (3) a mixture of live A. salina nauplii and adults. Improvement of lipid and phospholipid recoveries from sardine (Sardina pilchardus) viscera using industrial proteases ArchiMer

Enzymatic hydrolysis of sardine viscera by three broad spectrum proteases was investigated using the pHstat method (24 h, pH 8, 50 degrees C). After hydrolysis, three fractions (sludge, aqueous phase and oily phase) were collected. For each fraction, lipids and phospholipids were quantified and molecular weights of aqueous phase peptides were determined. Under these conditions, the degree of hydrolysis (DH) varied from 1.9% (Flavourzyme), 3.1% (Protamex) and to 3.3% (Alcalase). Dry matter distribution indicated that all hydrolysis performed increased solubilisation of proteins: protein recovery for each hydrolysis ranged from 57.4% to 61.2%. Effect of lipid level in a compound diet on the development of red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) larvae ArchiMer

Red drum larvae were fed from day 11 to day 24 post-hatch, with Artemia (LP group) or two isoproteinic-formulated diets with varying lipid levels, 15% (L15 group) and 30% (L30 group). The lipid fraction was composed of a mixture of cod liver oil and soy lecithin. Larvae fed Artemia exhibited the greatest length, L30 diet induced a larvae length significantly greater than that obtained with L15 diet (P < 0,05). No difference was observed in larvae survival among the three dietary groups. Understanding the population dynamics of invasive species, such as the green mussel Perna viridis (Linnaeus, 1758), can aid in explaining the success of newly introduced populations and help predict the potential for spread. Regulation of feed intake, growth, nutrient and energy utilisation in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) fed high fat diets ArchiMer

Three practical isoproteic (54% protein) diets were formulated to contain graded levels of crude fat (diet L: 10%, diet M: 20% and diet H: 30%). Each diet was assigned unrestrictedly to three and restrictedly to two replicate groups of fish (IBW 243 g). In unrestricted groups, increasing the dietary lipid level led to a significant decrease in voluntary feed intake without affecting growth rate. The combined effects of feeding time (morning and evening) and dietary fat concentration on feed intake, growth, body composition and lipid tissue distribution were examined in rainbow trout fed on demand. To that purpose, diets with low (LE, 6% lipid) or high energy concentrations (HE, 24% lipid) were used in four treatments that combined provision of the same (HE-HE or LE-LE) or different (HE-LE, LE-HE) diets at morning and evening meals. Delivery of riboflavin to larval and adult pacific oysters, Crassostrea gigas Thunberg by lipid spray beads ArchiMer

Lipid spray beads (SB) were prepared containing 13% w/w particulate riboflavin. Beads suspended in seawater lost 73% riboflavin after 24 h. Release of riboflavin from SE ingested by Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) larvae was observed under epifluorescent light. Riboflavin concentrations in tissues of adult oysters fed on riboflavin-SB were significantly (SNK, P < 0.05) greater than those of oysters fed on seawater-filled SE. Toxicity of cadmium and copper and their effect on some biochemical parameters of marine fish mugil sheheli OceanDocs

The present work aimed to estimate the toxicity of cadmium and copper to fingerlings of marine fish Mugil seheli, as well as the effect of different concentratios of Cd and Cu on some biochemical parameters (Aspartate and alanine transaminase enzymes, glucose, glycogen, lipid and protein) in the fish organs. 96-h LC50s of Cd and Cu were 5.36 and 1.64 ppm, respectively. Levels of aspartate and alanine transaminase were reduced within 2 days of exposure to different concentrations of Cd (2.0 and 0.5 ppm) and Cu (0.5 and 0.2 ppm) in both plasma and muscle tissue. Glucose was increased reaching the highest values after 4 days of the treatment with Cd and Cu, while muscle glycogen was increased at first days then dropped after 14 days below control level....
